Word Database
Our Word Database Passes 76,000 Australian Spelling Words
We've more than doubled the database. It now holds over 76,000 Australian English words — Green 20,000+, Orange 29,000+, Red 25,000+, plus the Championship level — every one with authentic Australian accent audio, a definition, part of speech, and an example sentence that uses the word exactly as you'll spell it. The new words come from the full Australian Hunspell dictionary, so the coverage now runs from everyday vocabulary right through to the rarest championship words — and every single one is pronounced for you.

New Feature
Practise Any Word List — Paste Words Directly from Your Teacher
You can now paste any word list straight into the app and start a practice session immediately. Just tap "Practise a custom word list" on the home screen, paste your words (one per line or comma-separated), and the app finds them in our database with their definitions and audio. Words not yet in our database are skipped and logged for review — we add frequently requested words regularly.
This is especially useful for the NSW Prime Minister's Spelling Bee, which publishes the actual competition word lists used at each school level. You can copy the list directly from their website, paste it here, and practise exactly the words your child will be tested on — with full audio pronunciation, definitions, and example sentences. Logged-in users can also save and name their lists, and share them with a single link so a teacher can send one URL to the whole class.

Audio
Audio Upgrades: Instant Playback for All 36,000 Words
We've migrated all audio files to a high-performance delivery system so pronunciation plays instantly — no buffering, no delays. Every word is recorded with a natural Australian accent at a clear, measured pace: you hear the word, then an example sentence, then the word again. This format mirrors real spelling bee competition conditions and helps students connect the sound to the spelling. The audio system now also automatically falls back to browser speech synthesis if a file isn't available, so practice is never interrupted.

Introducing Hot Seat Mode: Group Spelling Practice
Spelling practice is more fun together. Hot Seat Mode lets a group share one device — each player takes a turn in the hot seat, hears a word, and types their answer before passing it on. It's perfect for classrooms, homework nights, or family spelling challenges. Words are drawn from the chosen difficulty level and scores are tracked per player throughout the session. At the end, everyone sees a leaderboard with accuracy and average response time. No accounts needed — just pick your level and go.

Progress Tracking
Progress Tracking and Badges Now Live
You can now create a free account to track your spelling progress across sessions. See your accuracy rate, average response time, and how many words you've attempted at each difficulty level. The badge system rewards consistency: earn badges for first attempts, accuracy streaks, hitting 100, 500, and 1,000 words practised, and more. There are over 40 badges to collect. Progress syncs across all your devices so you can practise on your phone during the commute and pick up where you left off on a desktop later.
